POLICE in Meycauayan City on Thursday night arrested two suspected marijuana traffickers in the province during a buy-bust operation which led in the seizure of 55 kilograms of cannabis, Bulacan Police Provincial Office director, Senior Superintendent Chito G. Bersaluna announced yesterday.
In a report to Police Regional Office 3 director, Chief Supt. Amador V. Corpus, the official identified the arrested suspects as Ednilyn Bautista and Abigail Manzano, both residents of Barangay Pantoc, Meycauayan City.
Bersaluna said that Bautista and Manzano were arrested after they conspired to sell three plastic sachets containg dried marijuana leaves to an undercover officer of the Meycauayan City Police Drug Enforcement Unit around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
He said that also recovered from the suspects were 50 more bricks of dried marijuana leaves which remain the 2nd most abused drug in the country. A kilo of marijuana in the country usually fetches a price of P5,000 up.
Bersaluna said that the suspects will be facing non-bailable charges for selling and possession of dangerous drugs under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. The offense carries the maximum penalty of life imprisonment and a fine of as much as P10 million.
