TWO armed drug trafficking suspects were killed in shootouts with undercover agents in San Jose del Monte City while 15 others were arrested in separate anti-narcotics operations in Bulacan province this week, a report to Police Regional Office 3 director, Brigadier General Rhodel O. Sermonia said yesterday.
Bulacan Police Provincial Office director, Colonel Emma M. Libunao identified the slain suspects as Joseph Gigante, a resident of Block 12, Lot 193, Towerville Subdivision in Barangay Sto. Cristo and Montecarlo Ciruela, a man whose name is included in the unified watch list of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Philippine National Police Directorate for Intelligence.
According to Libunao, Gigante exchanged fire with agents of the Drug Enforcement Unit of the San Jose del Monte City Police Station after he and his cohorts sensed they were being entrapped at 1 a.m. Wednesday.
Officers returned fire and killed the suspect who yielded an improvised 12-gauge shotgun. The official said that three cohorts of the slain suspect identified as Melanio Baltazar, Arnold Millillin and Rea Cabutin were arrested.
Seized from the suspects were 33 heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, a plastic packet with dried marijuana leaves, one shotgun, various drug paraphernalia and the marked money.
On the other hand, Ciruela was killed in a sting which turned awry in Bgy. San Manuel around 11:30 p.m. Monday when he apparently noticed the ongoing entrapment operation and tried to shoot the poseur but missed.
