FORTY-FIVE passengers were hospitalized after their bus hit an electric post in Atok, Benguet late afternoon Wednesday, the Cordillera Police Regional Office said yesterday.
An initial investigation showed that Regan Ginoban, the driver of the Rising Sun Bus with plate no. WZO-568, lost control of the vehicle while negotiating the highway in Kilometer 24, Caliking, Atok municipality at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
As a result, the bus rammed an electric post resulting in injuries to the 45 who were all rushed to the Benguet General Hospital for treatment.
Cordillera police director, Brigadier General Israel Ephraim T. Dickson said that charges for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries will be filed against the bus driver who was detained at the local police station.
The incident prompted Philippine National Police spokesman, Colonel Bernard M. Banac to renew the PNP’s call for all public transport companies to make sure of the roadworthiness of their vehicles and the competence of their drivers.
Banac said that since last April 5, the PNP has already recorded 16 major vehicular accidents which resulted in injuries to 115 persons.
