AGENTS of the Regional Intelligence Unit 11 and the Davao Oriental Police Provincial Office seized a cache of unlicensed high-powered weapons during a raid on a house in Mati City in Davao Oriental, Philippine National Police Intelligence Group (PNP-IG) director, Brigadier General Edgar S. Monsalve announced yesterday.
The official said that the raid led by members of the Regional Intelligence Unit 11 resulted in the arrest of their main target identified as Cornelio Galon III inside his residence in Purok 12, Barangay Mamali in Mati City.
In a report to PNP Officer-in-Charge, Lt. Gen. Archie Francisco F. Gamboa, the PNP-IG director said that recovered during the operation were one M-14 rifle with defaced serial numbers, one 12-gauge magazine-feed shotgun, one caliber .45 pistol without serial number, one cal. .38 revolver, three Carbine magazines, three cal. .45 magazines, 18 live .38 ammunition, 25 cal. .45 bullets, eight M-14 magazines, 85 live M-14 bullets, 17 12-gauge shotgun ammunition, 36 cal. 5.56 ammunition, four M-79 grenade launcher ammunition, 18 different bladed weapons, 16 scabbards and an identification card from the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
The suspect was taken to the Mati City Police Station along with the recovered pieces of evidence shortly after the operation, Monsalve said.
Monsalve said that the operation was conducted by his men with the help of the Mati City Police Station, the Davao Oriental CIDG Provincial Field Unit and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency. The officers were armed with a search warrant for illegal possession of firearms and explosives issued by Judge Angelita Alfonso-Tumanda of the Mati City Regional Trial Court Branch 11.
