Cagayan car thief falls

A MAN tagged as the no. 2 most wanted car thief in Cagayan Valley is now in jail after being arrested by the local police in a manhunt operation in Santiago City in Isabela last Saturday, Police Regional Office 2 director, Brigadier General Jose Mario M. Espino said yesterday.

The official identified the jailed suspect as Paulo Evangelista, a 24-year old construction worker from Purok 5, Rufino Villave in Barangay Rizal, Santiago City.

He said that members of the Santiago City Police Station 1, the Isabela Provincial Highway Patrol Team and the PRO2 Regional Special Operations Division arrested the suspect on the strength of a warrant of arrest for carnapping.

The warrant was issued by Judge Efren Cacatian of the Santiago City Regional Trial Court Branch 35 last January 7.The judge also recommended a P300,000 bail for the temporary liberty of the accused.

Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group director, Brig. Gen. Roberto B. Fajardo said that the suspect was the latest to be arrested by his men in line with his order for all his 17 Regional Highway Patrol Units to go all-out in their effort to account for most wanted carnapping personalities in their areas of jurisdiction.
