Cagayan Valley cops score in battle vs crime, drugs

POLICE Regional Office 2 director, Brigadier General Angelito A. Casimiro yesterday announced the arrest of eight ‘high-value drug targets’ in Cagayan region following a series of anti-criminality operations this week.

Four of the suspects identified as Michael Bumanglag, Matthew Marquez, Alvin Pascual and Resty Misador were arrested in separate anti-narcotics operations conducted by agents of the Cagayan Police Provincial Office headed by Colonel Ariel N. Quilang, the official said.

Bumanglag yielded seven heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu in Enrile municipality while Marquez was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Tuguegarao City.

Pascual and Misador were arrested in another anti-drug operation conducted by joint Cagayan police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency operatives.

Two others identified as Reymundo Labbino and Roy Pascua also surrendered to police authorities in Camalaniugan municipality as a result of the continuing effort of the local police to persuade known drug personalities in the province to yield and become productive law-abiding citizens of the country, said Casimiro.

Last Monday, police also arrested Jayson Domingo, a 27-year-old tricycle driver after he sold P500 worth of shabu to a poseur in Barangay Saranay, Cabatuan, Isabela. The suspect yielded four heat-sealed plastic sachets containing shabu and the marked money following his arrest.

Another identified as Maria Theresa Pablo,52, a chicken wholesaler and her husband Jerry,55, both residents of Bgy. Rizal in Roxas, Isabela were arrested during a sting which led in the confiscation of six plastic sachets containing the drugs, several drug paraphernalia and a marked P500 bill.

On the other hand, Marco Paulo Angeles, a 43-year-old head of the barangay security and development office in Bgy. Poblacion, North Solano, Nueva Vizcaya was hauled to jail by local police and PDEA agents after he sold shabu to an undercover agent.

The suspect yielded three plastic sachets containing the dangerous drugs, a mark P1,000 bill paid to him by a poseur and a tricycle with plate no. XJ 5044.

All arrested suspects are now facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

In Cagayan, a week-long conduct of the enhanced police operation all over the province from June 8-14 also led in the arrest of 25 wanted persons, one of them identified as Erickson Taban, the 4th most wanted person in Cagayan Valley. Quilang said that the suspect who is wanted for six counts of statutory rape was arrested in his hiding place in Sta. Teresita municipality.

The official said that  seven of the suspects were among the province’s most wanted men. Quilang identified them as Rolando dela Cruz, a man wanted for murder; and considered as the 2nd most wanted in Cagayan Danny Alariao, the 3rd most wanted person in the province who was arrested for a murder case; Rodolfo Medelin, a rape and acts of lasciviousness suspect tagged as the no. 1 most wanted man in Cagayan; Jonathan Tumamao, the 4th most wanted person in the province who is facing a murder case; Franklin dela Cruz, the 2nd most wanted in Cagayan who is also wanted for murder; Dante Balantac, also a wanted murder suspect; and Leomar Tangonan, a man wanted for syndicated illegal recruitment and estafa.

Quilang said that the week-long operation also led in the arrest of 17 most wanted men in the municipalities of Lasam, Lal-lo, Sto. Niño, Gonzaga, Pamlona, Buguey, Amulung, Abulug, Camalaniugan and Baggao and Tuguegarao City.
