A NOTORIOUS drug trafficker in Cagayan Valley was killed in a gunbattle with anti-narcotics officers in Solano, Nueva Viscaya on Wednesday, Police Regional Office 2 director, Chief Superintendent Jose Mario M. Espino said yesterday.
Suspect Jalani Mangandaya, a resident of Room No. 5, TL Apartment located in Cubcub Street, Barangay Quezon, Solano municipality exchanged fire with undercover agents after he sensed he was being entrapped, the official said.
Officers returned fire hitting the suspect who died while being taken to the MMG Hospital in Solano while his live-in partner identified as Jasmin Montilla was arrested.
Espino said that the buy-bust operation was conducted by the local police under Senior Supt. Jeremias Aglubug 4:20 p.m. Wednesday.
The official said that recovered from the possession of the slain suspect were one caliber 9mm Luger semi-automatic pistol with a magazine containing seven live ammunition, a fragmentation grenade, several plastic sachets containing suspected shabu and dried marijuana leaves , assorted drug paraphernalia, the boodle money topped by marked bills as well as several fake P1,000 and P500 bills.
Espino said that Mangandaya was on bail for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 when he was encountered by the local police.
