Camarines Sur barangay chief dies in drug bust

DEL Gallego, Camarines Sur -- An alleged high-value target for drugs Jose Oriel Digrano Legazpi, incumbent punong barangay of Bgy. Peñafrancia, here, was killed in a shootout with joint Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit (RPDEU, RID-5), First PNP mobile force, Del Gallego and Ragay policemen during a sting in Bgy. Comadaycaday, the local police reported on Wednesday.

According to Chief Insp. Alden E. Orquita of the RPDEU-RID-5, Legazpi has been under surveillance by the police intel unit before the suspect was arrested in an entrapment operation with the participation of PO1 Jonel Bassallote, who acted as poseur-buyer.

Reportedly, a “bulto” of shabu was purchased by the police poseur-buyer and a confidential informant from Legazpi worth P24,000, using a genuine P1,000 bill on top of “boodle money”.

Upon sensing that he was dealing with police operatives, Legazpi reportedly rushed to his motorcycle and pulled a handgun from a sling-bag and fired at the police operatives, resulting in an exchange of gunfire, hitting him.

Legazpi was reportedly brought to Tagkawayan District Hospital in Tagkawayan town but was pronounced dead on arrival by an attending physician.
