Canned meat seized at Clark airport positive for ASF virus

June 14, 2019

AGRICULTURE Secretary Emmanuel Piñol yesterday revealed that the canned pork products confiscated at Clark International Airport on March 25 were found to be positive for African Swine Fever (ASF) virus.

Piñol made the disclosure as he wanted to  inform those who accused  them of overreacting and complaining against the strict implementation of quarantine protocols that “the country is truly facing a big threat.”

“H’wag na po tayong maging pilosopo at matigas ang ulo,”Piñol stressed.

He further reminded those who will be caught bringing into the country canned pork products, particularly those that came from countries affected by ASF, that they will be arrested and fined.

Piñol added that there is an existing ban of importing these canned pork products.

He advised the travelers to strictly comply with the quarantine protocols.

“Kung nakalusot po ito (referring to those confiscated products) at naipakain sa mga alagang baboy ang tira-tira, maaaring kumalat ang sakit sa ating mga babuyan at magiging sanhi ng pagkasira ng ating hog industry,” Piñol said.
