A MARAWI City police captain on Tuesday was arrested by combined agents of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Regional Highway Patrol Unit and the BARMM Police Regional Office Regional Intelligence Division while in possession of a suspected stolen SUV, BARMM police director, Brigadier General Marni C. Marcos Jr. said yesterday.
Cpt. Santos Libres Monares, a member of the Marawi City Police Station, was apprehended while driving a cool white Ford Everest which is under the ‘alarm list’ of the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group, said the BARMM police director.
Marcos said that Cpt. Monares failed to present his driver’s license as well as the vehicle’s Certificate of Registration and Official Receipt from the Land Transportation Office during questioning by members of the BARMM-RHPU and the BARMM-RID.
The official said the police officer claimed that the SUV was allegedly sold to him by one Police Captain Ramces Cartajena of the Police Regional Office 10 station in Camp Alagar in Cagayan de Oro City.
A record check showed that the SUV with LTO Conduction Sticker IK 3400 is registered under the name of one Dolores Gutierrez of Sta. Cruz, Manila. Its engine and chassis numbers also matched the record of the vehicle under Gutierrezes’ name.
Marcos said the police officer will be facing charges for violation of Republic Act 6539 or the anti-carnapping law as amended by RA 10883 and the anti-fencing law.
