A BUY-BUST operation in Mandaue City in Cebu early morning yesterday turned bloody when the suspect used his vehicle to ram two arresting police officers and later engaged the lawmen in a firefight when cornered, Police Regional Office 7 director, Brigadier General Debold M. Sinas said.
According to the official, members of the Mandaue City Police Office led by Colonel Jonathan Abella were about to arrest 38-year-old Jason Villa, a resident of Barangay Capitol Site in Cebu City after he sold shabu to an undercover officer along A. However, when the undercover officer introduced himself as a policeman shortly after the drug deal was consummated, the suspect who was on board a black Toyota Rav4 with plate no. WHH-705 refused to yield peacefully and instead stepped-on the gas and bumped two policemen.
He managed to drive in a short distance but chose to shoot it out with the lawmen when cornered. The wounded suspect was taken to the Chung Hua Hospital for treatment while the injured policemen were brought to the Mandaue City Hospital.
Sinas said recovered during the operation were one heat-sealed plastic sachet containing suspected shabu, a caliber .38 snub-nosed revolver with several live ammunition and a marked P1,000 bill. The suspect’s vehicle was also impounded by the local police.
