AGENTS of the Police Regional Office 7 on Friday evening had their latest major catch in the war on drugs: a drug trafficker who yielded an estimated P47.6 million worth of shabu during a buy-bust operation in Mandaue City in Cebu, a report to Philippine National Police chief, Director General Oscar D. Albayalde said yesterday.
PRO7 director, Chief Superintendent Debold M. Sinas identified the arrested suspect as Charlie Duhaylungsod Fortuna, a 24-year old resident of Rikio, Barangay Inayagan in Naga City, Cebu.
He said the suspect yielded seven plastic packets containing seven kilograms of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine’ during a buy-bust operation in Vista Montana Subdivision in Casili, Mandaue City at 9 p.m. Friday.
Sinas said that members of the PRO7 Regional Intelligence Division, Regional Special Operations Group, the Mandaue City Police Office and the Cebu City Police Office, joined by the PNP Drug Enforcement Group Visayas and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency conducted the sting.
He said that officers led by Senior Supt. Remus Medina recovered from the suspect’s possession a total of seven large plastic zip-lock packets containing the drugs, a small heat-sealed plastic sachet with shabu which was the subject of the buy-bust operation and the boodle money topped by marked bills.
Sinas described Fortuna as a newly-identified courier of a drug trafficking syndicate operating in Central Visayas. He said that during questioning, the suspect confessed that a drug detainee at the Mandaue City Jail facilitated the smuggling of the drugs in Cebu and Mandaue cities from Manila.
