POLICE Regional Office 7 director, Brigadier General Debold M. Sinas yesterday said he has ordered a thorough investigation into two separate gun attacks in the region which killed two young men last Sunday. All suspects are still being hunted as of press time.

The victims were identified as Jayson Habasa, a 22-year old rug maker from Sitio Dike in Barangay Tabunok, Talisay City in Cebu and Arriz Lao Banzon,16, a resident of Kamalig Bato, Tabok, Danao City.

Banzon was gunned down by three men along F. Ralota Street in Bgy. Poblacion, Danao City at 7:45 p.m. Sunday.

An initial investigation showed that the victim had just gone to church and was walking on his way home with his younger brother and some friends when attacked by the suspects identified as one Mark Jay Roca, one ‘John Paul’ and one ‘Joshua/Wawang.’

The victim suffered a gunshot wound in the chest and died while being taken to hospital.

On the other hand, Habasa was shot dead in Jacinto Street in Sitio Mananga 2 in Bgy. Tabunok at 3 a.m. Sunday.

Police have identified an alias ‘Kim’ as a ‘person of interest’ in the killing which is said to be drug-related.  Recovered at the crime scene were one deformed slug from an unknown caliber, two small heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, one lighter and P57 in different denominations.

Prior to the discovery of the victim’s body, local residents said they heard at least six gunshots in the area where they later discovered the crime.

Talisay City police chief, Major Orlando Carag Jr. said that they learned from the victim’s mother that a few days before he was killed, the latter and one ‘Kim’ figured in a fistfight. After they were separated by proverbial cooler heads, witnesses said they heard ‘Kim’ threatening to kill the victim while brandishing a firearm.
