CIDG-3 nabs murder suspect in Pampanga

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — Operatives under the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Region 3 arrested a murder suspect while in hiding in Barangay Sta. Rita, Minalin here last Monday.

Col. Amante Daro, regional officer of CIDG-3, identified the arrested suspect as Jaime Torno, 57, resident of Bagong Barrio, Caloocan City.

The suspect is wanted for allegedly shooting to death one Noemi Santos, 60, also resident of Bagong Barrio in the same city, last November 15.

Relatives of the victim sought the help of the CIDG after receiving information that the suspect was hiding in Minalin, prompting authorities to go after him.

CIDG-3 operatives were able to confiscate from the suspect a cal. .45 pistol, two magazines and 21 live ammunition. One live ammunition for a 12-gauge shotgun was also seized from him.

The suspect is facing charges for murder and violation of Republic Act 10591 for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

Meanwhile, the Police Regional Office 3’s campaign against illegal gambling went full tilt starting last month with the arrest of over 800 persons and confiscation of nearly P200,000 in bets.

PRO3 director Brig. Gen. Valeriano De Leon said that in more than 200 anti-illegal gambling operations launched by authorities, 818 persons who were engaged in various illegal gambling activities such as jueteng, illegal STL, or “bookies’, cockfighting, mahjong, cara y cruz and card games were apprehended while 236 cases were filed before various prosecution offices since October.

De Leon reiterated the “no take policy” fro, all illegal activities to all policemen and policewomen in line with the guidelines of Chief PNP Gen. Debold Sinas.

We are maximizing our efforts to quash all illegal activities especially gambling and illegal numbers game in the region and we are strict in implementing this campaign. Any police officer found to be taking bribes will be relieved and charged administratively for their actions,” the PRO3 director added.
