TWO men believed to be involved in a highly-fraudulent investment scam in Calabarzon region which has victimized scores of local residents were arrested by agents of the 4th Regional Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit during an entrapment operation in Sta. Rosa City in Laguna last Monday, a report to Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group director, Brigadier General Joel Napoleon M. Coronel said yesterday.
Suspects Jose Israel de Leon and Ezra Mark dela Cruz were placed under arrest shortly after they received marked money from their victims, all employees from the First Science Industrial Park in Cabuyao municipality around 9:20 p.m. Monday in Barangay Tagapo in Sta. Rosa City, said 4th RCIDU chief, Colonel Lawrence Cajipe.
According to Cajipe, the victims complained that the two lured them into investing in a Forex business with a 50 percent monthly return of investment.
The official said they have received information that the suspects have amassed some P10 million from their victims who decided to file a complaint against them when they failed to give them the monthly ‘earnings’ they promised.
Cajipe said that an investigation showed that the suspects were mere scammers have used their glib tongues to attract their victims. He said that recovered from the suspects’ possession were P200,000 worth of boodle money topped by a marked P1,000 bill and two mobile phones which contained messages they have sent to their victims as well as their monetary demands.
The suspects are now facing criminal charges for estafa, he said.
