CITY of San Fernando, Pampanga -- A man and a woman were arrested for extortion during an entrapment operation conducted by Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) operatives the other day.
Senior Supt. Christopher Abrahano, CIDG3 chief, identified the suspects as Artemio Laxamana, 61, and Maryann Soriano, 29, both of Lubao town, who had been representing themselves as members of the New People’s Army based in Dinalupihan, Bataan.
The operation led by Senior Insp. Arvin Hosmillo also resulted in the confiscation of a cal. .38 revolver loaded with four ammunition, a fragmentation grenade, P5,000 cash and P50,000 fake boodle money used in the entrapment operation.
The suspects are alleged members of the Laxamana Criminal Group involved in robbery-extortion and other kinds of fraud based on Information Report No. CIDGAng-2018-10-008 and CIDGAng-2018-10-009.
A complainant told the CIDG that the group had been extorting from her for several years amounting to P13 million.
Charges for robbery extortion, violation of RA 10591 for illegal gun possession and RA 9516 for illegal possession of explosive will be filed against the suspects.
Meanwhile in Sta. Maria, Bulacan, CIDG operatives arrested Gary Hermogenes, 46, and Hui Ma, 47, for violation of RA 10591.
Abrahano said operatives served a search warrant issued by Vice Executive Judge Sita Jose Clemente of Malolos Regional Trial Court Branch 16 against the two before they were arrested.
He said Hermogenes yielded a Cadix cal. .38 revolver and a Shooters cal. .45 pistol while Hui Ma yielded a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun and an Armscor cal. .45 pistol.
Charges were being prepared against the suspects.
