Cop cheats death in Balayan

A 33-year-old policeman cheated death when two unidentified men shot him while driving his car along the highway in Bgy. Cayponce, Balayan, Batangas early morning on yesterday.

Police identified the wounded cop as P/SSgt. Nelson Quinag of Bgy. Lanatan, Bulayan.

Balayan Municipal Police Station top cop P/Maj. Marlon C. Cabatana said the gun attack transpired along the highway while the victim was on his way home on board his red Toyota Vios when he noticed the two suspicious persons on board a motorcycle tailing his vehicle at 3:40 a.m.

The victim decided to stop at the roadside and immediately alighted from his car to check the riding in tandem persons but the back rider suddenly shot the victim prompting the latter to return fire while taking cover at the adjacent concrete fence just a couple of steps away from his vehicle.

Fortunately, Quinag was not hit. The suspects took an immediate U-turn and left the area heading towards Tuy town.  

Investigators recovered two empty shell casings for cal. .45 and four empty shells for cal. 9mm at the scene.  

Hot pursuit is still ongoing and police requested the activation of the Iron Curtain.
