A couple and a policeman were killed in separate motorcycle crash incidents in Mindoro and Negros Occidental over the weekend.
A report from the Public Commuters and Motorists Alliance (PCMA) said the first incident happened in Negros Occidental when a speeding van sideswept a motorcycle in Barangay Lopez Jaena, Saturday morning.
Police identified the victims as couple Junnil and Maria Lucil Nabua, of Cebu City.
The victims were going to Murcia to visit their relatives when the tragedy happened.
The victims were both declared dead upon the arrival at the hospital.
Police said the driver of the van escaped after the incident.
In Occidental Mindoro, a police officer was killed after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a tree Sunday afternoon.
Police identified the victim as Ronald Hilario Ani, assigned at the Mamburao municipal police station.
The victim was negotiating a sharp curve when he slammed into a tree.
The victim was thrown several meters away from the crash site.
Ani suffered severe body injuries and died on th spot.
The Motorcycle Association of the Philippines (MAP) reminded motorycle riders to be extra careful.
“Lalo po ngayon na long weekend, maraming bibiyahe gamit motorcycle kaya ‘think safety first’ to avoid similar incidents,” MAP said.
