A police undercover agent was shot and seriously wounded by an armed drug dealer he was trying to arrest during a buy-bust operation in General Santos City last Tuesday, Police Regional Office 12 director, Brigadier General Alfred S. Corpus said yesterday.

Corpus, however, said that despite being shot in his left leg, Corporal Ryan Valencia of the General Santos City Police Station 7 Drug Enforcement Unit still managed to arrest suspect Jikky Gaya Kamdan, a 32-year-old resident of Purok MC Village in Barangay Fatima.

The official said that prior to the shooting incident, the suspect had just sold a packet of shabu to Cpl. Valencia around 9:05 a.m. Tuesday along Fil-Am Avenue in Purok 11-A and was about to receive the marked money from the policeman when he sensed the ongoing entrapment operation.

Immediately, the suspect drew a concealed handgun and attempted to shoot the cop who managed to grab the suspect while waiting for back-up operatives to arrive. During their scuffle, the suspect managed to shoot the undercover officer before he was subdued by other officers.
