Cops collar elusive Abu bandit

BANGSAMORO Autonomous Region Police Regional Office director, Brigadier General Marni C. Marcos Jr. yesterday announced the capture of a most wanted Abu Sayyaf bandit also known for his involvement in illegal drugs and gun-for-hire activities in Zamboanga peninsula.

The official identified the suspect as Benhajar Salapuddin Alan, a resident of Sta. Barbara, Zamboanga City wanted for murder. Marcos said that a warrant of arrest for murder with no bail recommended was issued against the suspect by Judge Catherine Fabian of the Zamboanga City Regional Trial Court Branch 16.

According to the BAR police director, Alan is known to be a member of an Abu Sayyaf faction headed by the late Commander Albader Parad and is believed to have acted as a ‘negotiator’ of the terror group each time they conduct kidnapping-for-ransom activities in Sulu.

The suspect is also the primary suspect in the killing of one Joemer Hashim Jawadin on December 7, 2015 in Zamboanga City. Marcos said that the suspect was also identified as among the killers of Lieutenant Sali Salim, a team leader of the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit of the Sulu Police Provincial Office last January 12.
