TWO armed drug trafficking suspects in Cagayan Valley were killed in a gunbattle with undercover officers in Cauayan City in Isabela late evening Wednesday, Police Regional Office 2 director, Jose Mario M. Espino said yesterday.
The slain suspects identified as Eduardo Barroga and Butch Felipe had just conspired to sell drugs to an undercover officer in Barangay Bacareno in Cauayan City at 11:55 p.m. Wednesday when they pulled out their concealed handguns and started shooting after realizing they were dealing with a cop, said the Cagayan Valley police director.
Espino said members of the PRO2 Regional Intelligence Division and Regional Drug Enforcement Unit and the Cauayan City Police Station who were posted near the scene came to the rescue of the undercover operative and shot dead the suspects.
Recovered from the slain suspects’ possession were two loaded caliber .38 revolvers five heat-sealed plastic sachets containing shabu, a marked P1,000 bill, a mobile phone and a motorcycle they used in transporting the drugs.
Espino said the 30-year old Barroga, a resident of District 1, Cauayan City and Felipe were the subject of numerous reports regarding their involvement in the trafficking of shabu and marijuana and robbery-holdup incidents in their neighborhood and nearby areas prior to late Wednesday’s sting.
