THREE suspected big-time drug traffickers in Central Visayas were arrested by the local police in separate buy-bust operations on Sunday and Monday which led in the seizure of some P600,000 worth of shabu, Police Regional Office 7 director, Brigadier General Debold M. Sinas said yesterday.

Latest to be arrested last Monday evening was Peter Paul Matugas, a 25-year old jobless resident of P.G. Almendras Street in Barangay Suba, Danao City. Sinas said that the suspect yielded three heat-sealed plastic sachets containing 15 grams of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine’ valued at P102,000, the boodle money topped by one marked P500 bill and P550 in cash which were all believed to be part of his drug proceeds.

The official said that local policemen under Lieutenant Colonel Mark Gifter Sucalit arrested the suspect who is included in their watch list of drug personalities during an entrapment operation in Gate 4, Sitio Apro in Bgy. Ibo.

Two other suspects identified as John Delon Jacaban, 25, and Gamaliel Velmante, 26, were arrested by undercover police officers during a buy-bust operation in Cebu City which led in the confiscation of nearly P500,000 worth of shabu late evening Sunday.

The arrest of the two residents of Camp Marina, Barangay Kalunasan in Cebu City brought to eight the number of ‘high-value’ drug targets jailed by PRO7 agents during a string of anti-narcotics operations which had already resulted in the seizure of more than P8.5 million worth of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine,’ the PRO7 director said in a report to Philippine National Police chief, Director General Oscar D. Albayalde.

According to Sinas, both Jacaban and Velmante were arrested after they conspired to sell shabu to a poseur from the Drug Enforcement Unit of the Cebu City Police Station 9 headed by Lieutenant Joseph Mangle around 10:40 p.m. Sunday in Guadario, Andres Abellana in Bgy. Guadalupe.

Recovered from the two suspects’ possession were 26 heat-sealed plastic sachets containing some 70 grams of shabu worth P476,000 and the boodle money topped by two marked P100 bills.

Sinas said that  officers led by Lieutenant Colonel Carlito Apilat recovered 19 heat-sealed plastic sachets containing around 275 grams of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine’ worth P1.870 million from the suspect’s possession during the sting in Sitio Kiosko.

Another suspect identified as Marvin Saberon alias ‘Ogis,’32, a resident of Sitio Lahing-Lahing in Bgy. Mabolo, Cebu City was arrested after he sold nearly P3 million worth of shabu to a poseur.
