TAYABAS CITY -- Police killed a suspected leader of a syndicate engaged in robbery and gun for hire racket during a shootout at Bgy. Isabang, here, yesterday.
Quezon police director Senior Supt. Osmundo de Guzman said Rex Borrinaga, the alleged leader of the dreaded “Bordado Gang”, died on the spot.
De Guzman said the gang has been operating in this city and in the adjacent towns.
He said the incident happened at 10 a.m. while joint elements of Provincial Intelligence Branch and Tayabas City police station under Superintendents Norman Ranon and Mark Joseph Laygo, respectively, were conducting surveillance operation against the group when they spotted Borrinaga and his unidentified cohort walking along the highway.
“The operatives quiçkly alighted from their vehicle to confront the suspects but the suspects quickly pulledout their pistols and opened fire at the approaching lawmen while running away”, said De Guzman.
He said the operatives immediately returned fire and eventually hit Borrinaga who died instantly but his companion managed to escape.
De Guzman said probers recovered from Borrinaga a Llama 9mm pistol with several bullets, various identification cards and empty shells for said caliber and M16 rifle.
