POLICEMEN manning a checkpoint in Escalante City in Negros Occidental on Wednesday afternoon arrested eight suspected members of the New People’s Army who were found in possession of a cache of high-powered weapons and explosives, a Police Regional Office 6 report said yesterday.
PRO6 director, Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan said the eight suspects who were arrested on board a passenger vehicle in Barangay Jonob-Jonob at 4 p.m. were believed to be members of the NPA’s North Negros Front.
Seven of them were identified as Clint Mangayon, 20; Kenneth Serondo, 19; Joel Guillero, 40; Leon Charito, 60; Buenvinido Ducay, 55; Aiza Gamao, 32; and Jonathan Alcosiva, 21.
The seven along with the 8th suspect who happened to be a 17-year-old male were residents of either Escalante City or Toboso, Negros Occidental.
According to Pamuspusan, members of the Negros Occidental Provincial Mobile Force Company led by Lieutenant John Paul Tabujara were conducting border control and checkpoint in Bgy. Jonob-Jonob at 5:10 p.m. Wednesday when they intercepted the suspects who were on their way to Bgy. Balintawak.
The Western Visayas police director said that one of the policemen was inspecting the occupants of the vehicle when he noticed one of the suspects drew a handgun from in his waistline.
