A GUN attack in downtown Cotabato City believed to have been triggered by a ‘Rido’ or a long-standing family feud killed a barangay captain in Mamasapano, Maguindanao, his wife and their two companions on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
The victims were identified as Datu Nurodin Guiaman, the 34-year old chariman of Bgy. Tuka in Mamasapano, his wife Alwaida, 28; Bgy. Tuka treasurer Sindatu Agao and Basser Guiaman,42, a member of the barangay peacekeeping action team.
A report from the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Police Regional Office said the village chairman died while undergoing treatment in a local hospital past 6 p.m. Wednesday.
His wife and the two other victims died while being taken to the hospital.
Witnesses said at least six motorcycle-riding suspects attacked the victims while their car, a Toyota sedan with the improvised plate ‘111209’ was passing along the busy Norte Dame Avenue about 1:40 p.m. Wednesday.
Investigators from the Cotabato City Police Office under Colonel Portia Manalad said the victims were believed to have managed to return fire at their killers as evidenced by the discovery of two chamber-loaded caliber .45 pistols inside their vehicle.
Probers also recovered dozens of spent cal. .45 and 9mm cartridges at the crime scene.
Amid suspicions that the killings were triggered by a ‘Rido’ or a bloody feud between the Guiamans and a rival family, soldiers and policemen were alerted to be prepared to prevent possible retaliatory attacks from relatives of the four any time.
