A SUSPECTED top shabu supplier in Talisay City in Cebu was killed in a gunbattle with undercover officers on Wednesday afternoon, Police Regional Office 7 director, Chief Superintendent Debold M. Sinas said yesterday.
Suspect Rene Mantosa alias ‘Tambok,’ a jobless resident of Villa Bulsita in Barangay Bulacao, Talisay City pulled out a concealed handgun and exchanged fire with officers in Sitio Hawud in nearby Bgy. Bulacao after he sensed the entrapment operation at 5 p.m. Wednesday, the official said.
Sinas said that prior to the shootout, members of the San Fernando Municipal Police Station, the Talisay City Police Station and the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 7 launched the sting which targeted Mantosa who has been tagged by several arrested drug personalities in the area as their drug supplier.
He said that officers led by Chief Inspector Lymel Pasquin were forced to retaliate when the suspect started shooting at them when he felt the undercover operation.
Recovered from the slain suspect’s possession were one caliber .38 revolver with two live ammunition and a spent cartridge, 21 heat-sealed plastic sachets containing some P8,000 worth of suspected shabu and two marked P100 bills which he received from the poseur.
Sinas said that Mantosa was tagged as a ‘main drug player’ in Talisay City who is believed to be getting his supply from another contact in the city. A number of confessed drug personalities who have surrendered as a result of the PNP Oplan: Tokhang as well as some arrested drug offenders have revealed that they are getting their supply of shabu from Mantosa, he added.
