Department of Agriculture chief vows livelihood aid to farmers

OCULAR INSPECTION. DA Sec. Manny Piñol with San Roque, Northern Samar LMP spokesperson and Northern Samar Mayor’s League president Mayor Don Abalon, Vice Mayor Deodato Bantilo and other local officials, during an ocular inspection to develop model rice farms in the province.

AGRICULTURE Secretary Manny Piñol yesterday conducted an ocular inspection in Northern Samar badly-affected by typhoon “Usman” and assured farmers and other stakeholders of aid to help them cope with the calamity and increase their rice production.

Piñol visited  Naperez and Bgy. Dale in San Roque, Northern Samar and discussed with the farmers the  Department’s plans to boost rice production in the province and to promote San Roque as a model rice producer in the region.

The DA head also  promised to deliver 500 bags of palay seeds to the farmers affected by “Usman” and to expedite P5 million in loans, with minimal interest, to qualified beneficiaries.

Accompanying the DA Secretary on his rounds were  BFAR Undersecretary for Fisheries national director Eduardo Gongona, provincial agriculturist Leonida Laodeño, Vice Mayor Deodato Bantilo, and League of Municipalities - Northern Samar Chapter president and San Roque Mayor Don Abalon.
