MABINI, Batangas -- A diving instructor was killed by town authorities here in an encounter during a buy-bust operation on Tuesday evening.

Town police commander Chief Insp. Allan P. Nidua identified the suspect as Joel Manongsong, of legal age and a resident of Bgy. Solo, Mabini.

Nidua said, the suspect, known as a newly identified drug personality, died due to gunshot wounds in a firefight with the operatives of Mabini Municipal Police Station with the coordination of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency at 8:30 p.m.

He said the suspect and a poseur buyer met to transact shabu but once poseur handed the marked money, the suspect sensed he was dealing with a police officer.

The suspect quickly drew his cal. 38 revolver which led to a gunfight.

The suspect sustained bullet wounds and was immediately rushed to Mabini General Hospital when he was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Case officer PO1 Jovan Angeles Villareal said they recovered at the scene a cal. 38 revolver, cash money, eight heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, a P500 bill, a brown wallet with one voter’s ID, one Huawei cellphone and a motorcycle.

Last week, the wife of the suspect accompanied her daughter to the police station here and reported that the suspect raped the girl 10 times, PO1 Angeles added.
