NAGA City -- Republic Act 11108 created under the Department of Health (DoH) the Bicol Region General Hospital and Geriatric Medical Center located in Barceloneta, Cabusao, Camarines Sur, has been signed by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte into law, House Majority Floor Leader Rolando Andaya Jr. said over the week.

Andaya, who launched weekly medical missions in CamSur, said his sponsored House bill signed into law has become a realization to meet the medical needs of thousands of elderly in CamSur and the creation of a general hospital to off-set the shortage of health services, reportedly neglected by the provincial government.

In RA 11108, the current Bicol Sanitarium and Geriatric Care Hospital under previously passed House Bill 2987 has been converted to Bicol Region General Hospital and Geriatric Medical Center (BRGH-GMC) with a 400-bed medical facility.

Andaya said under RA 11108, the BRGH-GMC will be provided funds under the General Appropriations Act for 2019. It is targetted to expand to 600 bed capacity in the near future.

Health Sec. Francisco T. Duque, CamSur Rep. Andaya and DoH Asec. Nestor F. Santiago Jr. inaugurated in late April this year three additional hospital buildings of the BRGH-GMC -- a newly-constructed Diagnostic Building, an Emergency Department Building and an Out-Patient Department Building.
