ALIAGA, Nueva Ecija -- An incumbent barangay captain got the biggest scare of his life when a hand grenade lobbed by two unidentified men inside his house failed to explode here last Thursday night.
Police said Barangay Captain Renanto Pascual, 41, of Bgy. Santiago was in the terrace when the grenade was thrown inside the compound at 9:27 p.m.
Police Col. Leon Victor Rosete, provincial police director, said Pascual was unhurt because the grenade fortunately did not explode.
After hurling the grenade, Rosete said the unidentified suspects fled towards the north direction.
He said he already ordered his men to review CCTV footages in the area for possible identification of the suspects.
Meanwhile, an illegal discharge of firearms incident occurred in San Jose City last Thursday night.
City police head Lt. Col. Heryl Bruno said a white Mitsubishi L300 van with seven men on board was allegedly seen in Zone 2, Bgy. San Mauricio at 11:30 p.m.
A witness claimed one of them allegedly fired his gun in the air several times before the group fled towards Talavera town.
Police recovered five spent casings for cal. 45 at the area.
