STA. ROSA, Nueva Ecija -- A 55-year-old barangay chairman was shot dead by two unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants here on Friday night.
Provincial police director Senior Supt. Leon Victor Z. Rosete identified the slain barangay official as Rene Sebastian, of Bgy. La Fuente.
His killing took place amid the intensified implementation by the police of checkpoint and anti-criminality operations as security protocols in preparation for May’s midterm polls.
Reports said the attack was perpetrated by two men riding a black motorcycle while Sebastian was playing a card game with some friends in the terrace of Marlon Adriano’s house at 6:45 p.m.
Investigation showed one of the suspects alighted from the motorcycle then drew his gun and peppered the victim with bullets.
After the gun assault, the suspects fled towards west direction passing through the La Fuente barangay road going to Bgy. San Jose.
Rosete said the barangay official was rushed to the Nueva Ecija Doctor’s Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.
He said the gunman was described as about 5’3” to 5’5” in height and wearing white helmet.
Authorities are still clueless about the motive behind the killing.
