SAN ANTONIO, Nueva Ecija – Police nabbed one of two men who allegedly hurled a firecracker that exploded and destroyed the front gate of the house of an councilor-son of former vice mayor and film director Jose “Kaka” Balagtas here on Sunday.
Town police chief Major Ador S. Depnag identified the arrested suspect as Christian John Paz, 24, single, of Bgy. Poblacion while his cohort, identified as Allan Zapata, the alleged mastermind of the firecracker-throwing incident, eluded arrest.
Damaged by the firecracker explosion was the gate of the house owned by Kaka Balagtas’ son identified as town councilor Adonis Balagtas, of Bgy. Poblacion.
Depnag said his men responded to a call at 12:18 a.m. and found out that a firecracker explosion occurred at the Balagtas residence, causing an undetermined amount of damages to the house’s front gate.
A follow-up operation that resulted in the identification of the two suspects, one of whom was subsequently nabbed by peace-keeping members in Bgy. Poblacion.
Paz pointed to Zapata as the alleged mastermind in the firecracker-throwing incident.
Charges for violation of Republic Act 7183, threat and damage to property were filed against the suspects before the provincial prosecutor’s office.
