Ecija police officer shot by intruder

SCIENCE City of Muñoz -- A police officer was wounded after being shot in the shoulder by a suspected robber, who tried to escape after he was caught by the lawman trying to destroy his bedroom’s window while he was sleeping early Sunday morning.

Acting Nueva Ecija police director Senior Supt. Leon Victor Z. Rosete identified the wounded cop as PO3 Aquilino Aguirre, 48, of Purok Maginhawa, Bgy. Bagong Sikat, assigned at the city police station.

Aguirre was sleeping inside his bedroom when he was roused from sleep by the constant barking of his dog at 4 a.m.

Sensing there was an intruder, Aguirre said he got up to check outside and saw the unidentified suspect trying to break open his bedroom’s window.

The suspect, described as about 5’4 to 5’5 in height, of medium built, wearing cargo dark-colored shorts and jacket, ball cap and face mask, however, saw the approaching lawman and ran at the back of the house.

Rosete said the lawman gave chase but was shot by the fleeing suspect, hitting him in the right shoulder.

Rosete said the wounded victim was rushed to Premiere Medical Center in Cabanatuan City.

Recovered at the crime scene were two fired cartridge cases for cal. .45 pistol.
