RIZAL, Nueva Ecija — A public high school teacher was killed after being shot once in the nape by an unidentified gunman here on Monday afternoon.
Police head Major Herbert Ocumen identified the slain victim as Richard Peňaflor, 31, single, of Bgy. Poblacion Norte, this town, teacher at the Rizal National High School.
Peñaflor was seated outside the house and was texting somebody on his mobile phone when the suspect approached and shot him at the back of the head before escaping on foot.
The gun attack occurred at 1:15 p.m. The shooting incident was reported to the police by personnel from the municipal risk reduction management office here at 1:36 p.m.
Senior Master Sgt. Marlon Concepcion, case investigator, said they are initially looking at mistaken identity and love triangle as possible motives behind the killing.
He said no slugs or empty shells were recovered from the crime scene.
Concepcion added.
CCTV footages recovered showed the gunman was clad in maong blue pants, white shirt, red face mask and bull cap, of medium-built, about 5’5 to 5’6 in height, and fair-complexioned.
