Elections in Bicol, Cordillera generally peaceful – police

POLICE yesterday said that the national and local elections in the Bicol and Cordillera regions were very orderly and generally peaceful.

Police Regional Office 5 director Brig. Gen. Arnel Escobal yesterday declared as generally peaceful the conduct of elections in the entire Bicol region, including Daraga, Albay which was placed under Comelec control following the killing of AKO Bicol Party-list Rep. Rodel Batocabe last year.

“We would like to thank our Armed Forces counterparts, other law enforcement agencies, local government units and all our stakeholders, specifically all Bicolanos, for helping the Bicol police force ensure a generally peaceful and fair elections in the region,” Escobal said.

Escobal said that from January 13 to election day, they have arrested 172 gun ban offenders and confiscated 185 various firearms, 2,323 live ammunition and 2,021 other deadly weapons.

They also recorded 12 incidents of vote-buying and seized P263,650 in different denominations used to buy votes by 15 arrested suspects who are now facing charges for violation of the Omnibus Election Code.

He added that they also recorded 12 incidents of liquor ban violations, which led to the arrest of 38 suspects.

Police Regional Office – Cordillera regional director Brig. Gen. Ephraim Taverner Dickson said elections in Cordillera were also generally peaceful.
