Elusive kidnapper arrested in PNP-AKG Cotabato raid

A MAN wanted for a kidnapping-for-ransom case in Mindanao in 1990 was arrested during a Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG)-led raid in Cotabato City on Wednesday, PNP-AKG director, Colonel Jonnel C. Estomo reported yesterday.

The official identified the arrested suspect as Nasser Gumbila Uko alias’ Nasser Haji Ali,’ the subject of a search warrant for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and described as a member of the dreaded Mubarak Kidnapping-for-Ransom Group which gained notoriety in the 1990s.

According to Estomo, members of the PNP-AKG Mindanao Field Office, with the help of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and the PNP Maritime Group raided the house of Uko in Balbaran, Barangay Mother Tamontaka, Cotabato City on the strength of a search warrant for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 issued by Judge Kassan Abdulrakman of the Cotabato City Regional Trial Court Branch 27.

Recovered during the raid were one loaded 9mm Glock semi-automatic pistol with a magazine containing several live ammunition and assorted identification cards.

Estomo said that the suspect is particularly wanted for the kidnapping of Filipino-Chinese businessman Eulogio ‘Adin’ Yu in Cotabato City in 1990.
