Ex-barangay chairman jailed for illegal guns in Isabela

A FORMER barangay captain in Roxas, Isabela  yielded a cache of illegal weapons and bullets during a raid at his house in Roxas, Isabela.

Police Regional Office 2 director Chief Superintendent Jose Mario M. Espino said Demetrio Galvez, a 61-year-old farmer and former chairman of Bgy. San Antonio, in Roxas town was arrested during a raid on his residence for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013.

This is in line with our ongoing effort to account for all loose firearms and other deadly weapons that could be used to disrupt the holding of a peaceful May 13 national and local elections in Cagayan Valley,” the official told the Journal Group.

Recovered in the raid were one Uzi machine pistol, a 12-gauge Winchester shotgun, a . 45 STI International semi-automatic pistol, one .45 Colt pistol, 29 live .45 bullets, nine live 9mm ammos and two holsters.

Espino said the raid was conducted by members of the Roxas town police, the Isabela Provincial Mobile Force Company and the 2nd Regional Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit headed by Senior Supt. Ronald Gayo.
