Ex-cop-turned-drug trader falls in Cagayan

CAGAYAN Police Provincial Office director, Colonel Ariel N. Quilang yesterday announced the arrest of a 55-year old ex-policeman-turned ‘high-value individual’ for his suspected involvement in illegal drug trafficking in the province.

In a report to Police Regional Office 2 director, Brigadier General Crizaldo O. Nieves, the official identified the suspect as David Guitering, a former Police Master Staff Sergeant residing in Bulauitan Street in Linao East, Tuguegarao City.

According to Quilang, the suspect was arrested during a buy-bust operation along the provincial road in Linao East 1:30 p.m. Friday by members of the Tuguegarao City Police Station and the Cagayan PPO’s Provincial Intelligence Unit.

Recovered from the suspect’s possession were five heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu and the marked P1,000 bill paid to him by an undercover officer.

The suspect is now being held at the Tuguegarao City police jail facing non-bailable charges for sale and possession of prohibited drugs under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Brig. Gen. Nieves commended the police team led by Lieutenant Col. Pepito Mendoza Jr., Major Joefferson Gannaban and Captain Samuel Lopez for accounting for the ex-cop-turned ‘HVT’ in line with their stepped-up campaign against rogues in uniform, whether in active service or have already retired or been dismissed from the police force.
