STO. DOMINGO, Nueva Ecija — A couple said to be leaders of defeated former mayor Greg Andres were killed by unidentified motorcycle-riding men on their way to his house here on Friday.
Police Maj. Abraham Atencio identified the slain spouses as Herman, 54, and Imelda Moreno, 54, both of Bgy. General Luna.
The two victims were riding a Honda TMX tricycle when upon reaching an irrigation canal, the two assailants on board a motorcycle suddenly appeared and one of them shot Herman repeatedly.
His wife saw this as she immediately disembarked from the vehicle and tried to escape. But one of the suspects followed her and shot her successively resulting in her instantaneous death.
Atencio said the gun attack was pulled off in Purok 7, Bgy. Pulong Buli at 7:35 a.m.
Former mayor Greg Andres, who was defeated by Imee Llado-De Guzman in last May’s 2019 mayoral contest said the killing was “politically-motivated.”
He said the two victims were on their way to his house when murdered. “Mga leaders ko po sila on the way na dito sa bahay nang tambangan.”
“Isang anggulo po kasi ay pilit na ipinaaatras iyung anak nila bilang testigo sa election sabotage na isinampa namin laban sa aking kalaban at sila ay tinatakot,” said Andres in his FB messenger sent to this reporter.
The former mayor also bewailed the existence of so-called “political prisoners” here as 11 of his leaders were already jailed facing perjury charges before a local court here while the other witnesses in the said case are in hiding while his lawyer is working out for the recall of the arrest warrants issued against them.
