Farm caretaker shot dead in drug bust

A farmland caretaker was killed by operatives of the Drug Enforcement Team (DET) in armed confrontation while they were conducting  anti-illegal drug operation in Purok 1 , Bgy. San Nicolas, San Pablo City, Laguna, on Thursday night.

Supt. Eliseo Bernales, San Pablo police chief, said the slain suspect identified as Jonald Moredo, legal age, farmland caretaker, and  resident of  Bgy. Lalig, Tiaong Quezon.

At about 7:20 in the evening the operatives under Supt. Bernales has conducting buy-bust operation for a violation of RA 9165 against the suspect which resulted to an armed encounter with Drug Enforcement Team (DET).

Initial investigation disclosed that after the buy-bust was consummated, the suspect sensed that a poseur-buyer was a police officer , suspect immediately drew his handgun and fired toward at the operating team which prompted to return fire.

Suspect sustained gunshot wounds on his left chest and was brought to Pagamutang Panlalawigan ng Laguna for treatment but was declared dead on arrival by Dr. Jourdan Malveda, a resident physician.

Recovered pieces of evidence from the crime scene were 1 unit of caliber 45 pistol with inserted 1 magazine with ammunition 2 pieces fired cartridge case of 9mm,  1 sling bag containing a weighting scale and wallet.

Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) were conducting the process in the crime scene.

The suspect is included in the Drug Watchlist for distributing illegal drugs in the area of Bgy. San Nicolas, San Rafael and Bgy San Francisco, in this city.

Investigator said that the  modus of the suspect is to pretend as a farmer in the eggplant plantation and sells illegal drugs to tricycle and jitney drivers as well as to other drug users in the said barangays.
