Farmer killed by fishing gadget

GENERAL NATIVIDAD, Nueva Ecija -- A 44-year-old farmer was killed while allegedly fishing with a portable electric fishing rod in this town on Wednesday.

Police said farmer George Walian of Purok Bliss, Bgy. Belen was found dead with his face half-buried in the mud near his house at 7 a.m.

Hilario Nunez, who discovered the victim's body on his way to his farm immediately alerted the police about the incident.

Provincial police chief Col. Leon Victor Rosete said the victim was believed electrocuted by his own improvised electric fishing gadget while fishing.

Rosete said the victim's body was brought to the Three Angels Funeral Homes for autopsy but his wife Lorena, 39, declined the procedure believing that her husband's death was due to accidental self-electrocution. --
