LUCENA CITY — A 51-year-old mother yesterday ended up dead after she engaged in an altercation with a videoke bar caretaker over the use of a microphone.

City police director Lt. Col. Reydante Ariza identified the fatality as Liwayway Abardo, an employee of Queen Margarete Hotel residing in Bgy. Tongco, Tayabas City.

The suspect was identified as Venus Davila, a 58-year-old widow residing in Purok Bagong Buhay, Bgy. Cotta and caretaker of Tita V  Videoke Bar.

PMSg Nestor Lumanglas said the victim had a drinking party with his daughter and son at the videoke bar in Bgy. 5 at 4 a.m. yesterday.

Abardo, who was drunk, confronted the suspect for lowering the microphone sound while she was singing.

The spat triggered a physical confrontation that left several plates and glasses shattered.

After being pacified, the victim’s group paid their bill and were about to leave the place  when the suspect, who was armed with a homemade shotgun, ran after them and asked them for payment of the broken plates and glasses.

The victim tried to grab the gun and it went off, hitting her in the chest.

Abardo’s daughter and son grabbed the gun and smashed it several times to the suspect’s head.

Both the victim and the suspect were rushed to the hospital, where Abardo was declared dead on arrival.
