A member of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) was killed by government forces when he tried to evade a checkpoint yesterday morning in Maguindanao.
The fatality was identified as Kaliga Usman Kamsa , of legal age and member of BIFF.
Reports reaching Camp Aguinaldo said the incident occurred at around 6:15 a.m. in Barangay Malangiy, Pandag, Maguindanao.
Accordingly, troops from 40th Infantry Battalion estabished a Cafgu Active Auxillary checkpoint in the area when the suspect arrived.
Instead of proceeding to the checkpoint and undergo a routinary inspection, the suspect tried to outrun the governmwnt forces that prompted the latter to chase him.
A firefight occured that resulted to the killing of Kamsa.
Recovered from the possession of Kamsa were two fragmentary hand grenades.
“The troops launched the operation at the residence of the target in Barangay Upper Siling, Paglat, but he escaped onboard a motorcycle,” Major General Diosdado Carreon, commander of the Joint Task Force Central said.
“The blocking troops were to apprehend him but he resisted,” Carreon added.
The neutralized BIFF member and the recovered items were turned over to Pandag PNP for proper disposition.
Western Mindanao Command Commander Lt.Gen.Cirilito Sobejana commended the troops for their successful operation.
“We are continuously conducting focused military operations, we are encouraging the remaining combatants to surrender and avail of the government’s livelihood programs prepared for them,” Sobejana said.
