Gamboa visits Rizal cop’s wake

October 27, 2019

PHILIPPINE National Police Officer-in-Charge, Lieutenant General Archie Francisco F. Gamboa, yesterday visited the wake of a Rizal policeman who was shot dead by an armed drug dealer in Pililia town last Friday.

Joined by PNP Director for Comptrollership, Major General Jose Maria Victor DF Ramos and Police Regional Office 4-A director, Brigadier General Vicente D. Danao Jr., the PNP-OIC condoled with the family of Staff Sergeant Michael Cabillo, a brave member of the Pililia Municipal Police Station Drug Enforcement Unit.

Gamboa also visited Cabillo’s colleagues, Staff Sgt. Lazaro Guinao-wa and Patrolman Paul Ryan Santos, both members of the Special Weapons and Action (SWAT) and Explosives Ordnance Disposal Division of the Rizal Provincial Mobile Force Company who were wounded during the buy-bust operation around 11 a.m. Friday at the Aida’s Farm in Barangay Bagumbayan in Pililia.

The PNP-OIC awarded the posthumous Medalya ng Kagalingan or PNP Merit Medal to SSgt. Cabillo and extended financial assistance to his family. The fallen cop’s immediate family will receive 708,000 from the Public Safety Mutual Benefit Fund Inc (PSMBFI). Initially, a PSMBFI cheque amounting to 243,000 was received by the slain cop’s widow Mary Joy.

“I offer my deepest condolences on behalf of the whole PNP members to the family of SSgt. Cabillo. Rest assured that the bereaved family of the late SSgt. Cabillo will get the full benefits as well as the other two wounded officers,” Gamboa said.

A PRO4-A report said that members of the Pililia MPS-DEU under Major Florante Yu conducted the sting wherein Cabillo acted as the poseur-buyer.

However, at the height of their negotiation, the suspect identified as Neser Valsorable Tena alias ‘Michael’ sensed he was dealing with an undercover officer and immediately drew a concealed firearm and shot Cabillo in the body.

After hitting the cop, the suspect fled prompting back-up operatives to give chase. Undaunted, the suspect fired more shots and wounded SSgt. Guinao-wa and Pat. Santos.

He later entered his apartment and took nine children as hostages. An hour-long negotiation ensued until SWAT operatives managed to gun down the suspect and rescue the hostages.

A team of policemen from the Rizal Provincial Crime Laboratory Office Team led by Major Joseph Torcita which processed the crime scene recovered  nine heat-sealed plastic sachets containing around 38 grams of shabu worth nearly P260,000, a loaded caliber .45 Remington semi-automatic pistol, a Carbine rifle with a magazine with live bullets and several drug paraphernalia.
