POLICE on Sunday rescued a 12-year-old girl from a depressed man who took her hostage in Boac, Marinduque.
Victim Mary of Boac town was released by suspect Trovador Mabitad Buban, 38, also a resident of the barangay, after hours of negotiations.
The hostage-taking occurred in Bgy. Tampus in Boac at 8:25 p.m. on Sunday.
Mary was standing on the road when the suspect, for unknown reason, suddenly grabbed her and took her hostage.
Neighbors of the victim who saw the incident immediately called the police.
After two hours of negotiations, Buban freed Mary unharmed.
Buban was arrested and charged with serious illegal detention and attempted homicide.
The wife of the suspect told the police that Buban was suffering from severe depression due to a family problem.
