A 28-year-old employee of the Dumingag municipal hall in Zamboanga del Sur was arrested by the local police for violation of the Omnibus Election Code, probably the last gun ban offender to be hauled to jail by the Western Mindanao police since the election period started last January 13 and ended Friday midnight.
Suspect Junrey Remotique, a Livelihood Development Coordinator of the Dumingag municipality yielded an unlicensed caliber .38 revolver with six live ammunition following his arrest in Purok 6, Barangay Lower Timonan at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, said Police Regional Office 9 director, Brigadier General Froilan Quidilla.
The official said that before he was arrested, the suspect reportedly harassed an elderly couple in the area who immediately reported their ordeal to the local police. Members of the Dumingag Muncipal Police Station intercepted the suspect as he was about to leave the place on board his motorcycle.
The nationwide gun ban officially ended Friday midnight with the Philippine National Police going on another mission: the need to ensure the certainty of punishment for over 6,300 persons arrested for violating the prohibition on the unauthorized carrying of firearms and other deadly weapons during the election period which started last January 13.
