STILL unidentified gunmen ambushed a group of policemen escorting Food and Drug Administration Director General Nela Charade Puno in Lupi, Camarines Sur yesterday morning killing three of the officers and injuring three others, the Police Regional Office 5 reported.
The group was on their way to Daet, Camarines Norte from the airport in Pili town when they came under heavy fire from the suspects in Barangay Napolidan past 9 in the morning.
As a result, three policemen identified as Senior Police Officer 1 Percival Rafael, PO3 Carlito Navarroza and PO1 Ralph Jason Vida were killed while PO1s Jonathan Perillo, Rodolfo Gonzaga and Ruby Bueno were wounded.
Puno was unharmed in the attack as he was in another vehicle, apparently, the gunmen only targeted the policemen who were in uniform.
Police Regional Office 5 director, Chief Superintendent Arnel B. Escobal ordered massive pursuit operations against the killers. An investigation into the real identities and motive of the gunmen is already underway, he said.
Meanwhile, a suspected armed drug trafficker was killed in a gunbattle with anti-narcotics agents in San Jose del Monte City early morning yesterday, the third to be killed as a result of ongoing massive anti-narcotics operations by the Bulacan Police Provincial Office over the past three days.
Bulacan police director, Senior Superintendent Chito G. Bersaluna said the suspect identified only as alias ‘Jay-ar’ died after trading shots with undercover officers of the San Jose del Monte City Police Drug Enforcement Unit in Bijasa Road, Towerville 6 in Barangay Gaya-Gaya around 1:10 in the morning.
In a report to Police Regional Office 3 director, Chief Supt. Amador V. Corpus, the official said the suspect had just sold a packet of shabu to a poseur when he drew a concealed firearm after sensing he was dealing with a cop and tried to shoot the latter who managed to seek cover.
