GUIMBA. Nueva Ecija -- Senatorial bet and Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos yesterday said she is happy that former Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla was finally acquitted of plunder and already released after four years of detention by the Sandiganbayan in connection with the pork barrel fund scam.
“Natutuwa po ako kaibigan namin iyon, ang tagal-tagal naman niya nasa kulungan eh sana tuluyang mawala na iba’t ibang problema niya,” she said.
Marcos, however, could not state if the Sandiganbayan’s acquittal of Revilla could be called a “game-changer” in so far as boosting his senatorial bid in next year’s midterm polls is concerned.
“Napakaraming kandidato, hindi ko masasabing game-changer, andami-daming kandidato siksikan na sa Senado ngayon, nakita natin sa Guimba pa lamang napakarami namin, nag-u-umpugan na ang helicopter,” the Ilocos Norte governor said.
Prior to Mrs. Marcos’ arrival, senatorial bet Francis Tolentino, adviser of President Duterte on political affairs, also flew to this town to join the celebration of the women’s group.
He was met by town officials led by Mayor Jose “Boyong-Boyong” Dizon and his son former mayor Bopet Dizon. Also welcoming Tolentino were Gov. Czarina “Cherry” D. Umali, her husband former Gov. Aurelio “Oyie” M. Umali, his younger brother Cabanatuan City vice mayor Doc Anthony Umali and Ler De Guzman.
After her brief stop here, the Ilocos Norte governor then flew to Quezon, Nueva Ecija for another speaking engagement where she was met by Mayor Mariano Cristino “Boyet” Joson, who reportedly tendered a luncheon to celebrate the 21st wedding anniversary of the Umali couple.
