Japanese tourist drowns in Cebu

A 59-YEAR-old Japanese national drowned while on a deep-sea diving expedition in Moalboal, Cebu shortly before noon Tuesday, the local police reported.

The body of Kazuo Fukui, a resident of Hyogo Ken, Amagasaki City, Nukatacho, Japan was found some 39 meters underwater at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, said Police Regional Office 7 director, Brigadier General Debold M. Sinas.

The official said that the Moalboal Municipal Police Station was informed of the drowning incident in Barangay Basdiot in Moalboal around 3 in the afternoon.

An investigation sho-wed that the Japanese tourist, along with German couple Carl and Monica Weber left the Nelsons Dive Shop in Moalboal and proceeded to nearby Pescador Island  for a dive.

The foreigners rented a motorboat owned by a local resident.

Immediately after reaching the dive area, the Japanese went underwater followed a couple of minutes later by the German couple.
