A SOUTH Korean national wanted for the kidnapping of his four compatriots in San Juan City in January 2015 was arrested by agents of the Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG) in a manhunt operation in Cavite province on Tuesday, PNP-AKG director, Colonel Jonnel C. Estomo announced yesterday.
Cho Jung Gi was arrested on the strength of a warrant of arrest for kidnapping-for-ransom issued by Judge Caesar Buenagua of the Pasig City Regional Trial Court Branch 160 on February 27, 2017, said the PNP-AKG director in a report to PNP Officer-in-Charge, Lieutenant General Archie Francisco F. Gamboa.
According to Estomo, the 28-year old Korean was tracked down in his residence in Barangay Buho in Silang, Cavite by a tracker team from the PNP-AKG and the Tagaytay City Police Station shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The official said that the suspect is one of the accused in the kidnapping of Korean nationals Kan Dea Jin, Kim Thin Sung, Kim Kyung Ju and Cho Hyun Seokin inside a house on Vito Cruz Street in Bgy. Maytuna, San Juan City.
PNP-AKG records showed that the kidnappers initially demanded P4 million for the safe release of the victim. On the same day, the victims’ employer deposited a total of P5 million to a bank account mentioned by the kidnappers during their talk with a representative of the company.
